As much as I loooooove arduinos and all the amazing abilities they provide, I don't really think using one in a blaster just as an ammo counter is worth it.
That's my opinion, of course, but I do give props to people who work them into their blasters. I'd love to do some over the top arduino blaster monstrosity one day, but I don't know what.

On topic though, I do look forward to your pics, Darknyght

Man, if there were more of a market for such a system, imagine a complete integrated control solution for a Stampede. There are computerized MOSFET modules in airsoft based on microcontrollers similar to the arduino, with programmable motor braking, PWM motor control for infinitely variable cyclic rate, burst fire... and on a stampede action, unlike an airsoft gun, there is the potential to majorly change a lot of the control strategy. Instead of the cycle switch, you would have Hall effect sensors or photogates on the bolt for much more intelligent control over motor power/braking, and the trigger would just be an input to the controller like an EP paintball gun. Then another photogate across the magazine to detect the presence of a round.

You could drop an electronic module and a prefab harness with a bunch of sensors into a 'pede and get a safe/hi-po switching setup for high currents, burst fire, dryfire prevention, ammo counting, active anti-misfeed, active anti-runaway/bolt position control, variable cyclic rate with management of trigger response, even possibly semi-only operation and a way to lock out FA when mods require so (early game, with weapon unlocks). Perhaps... ramping, for you campuses that ban FA entirely.

and this is why I love the Raven. being able to reload at ANY given time and NEVER leaving my guard down mean that I always try to reload regardless of how many rounds I have.

and yes. it is awesome. makes for the ultimate scirmish blaster  Grin

@torukmakto4: Oh gawd. If only I had access to photogates, I'd disappear for a month into my workshop to make this happen. So many options! Wiring would be hell due to the tight spaces...

@Bobololo: As do I. I moved a bunch of my tools back home over Easter and don't have access to the displays yet so both projects are stuck as WIPs until after finals week.

Where were you planning to place the counter/meter Darknyght00? I suspect in the same place as d4rk543r right above the jam door?
I've seen the internals for his and I have to say its going to be a pain to do considering his meter was just a bump from touching the flywheels...

That's the plan. It's a pretty tight fit but, with proper routing, it should be able to miss the gearbox entirely.

I'm really interested in how your ammo counter is going to turn out.

Naturally. As soon as there is progress, it will be posted here and over at NH if I'm feeling particularly motivated (I understand the need for all the rules over there but Langley still scares the piss outta me). The exact plan for the Stampede will probably merit a full(ish) writeup, time permitting. Too bad about not having the time, money, or expertise to do what toruk suggested...

I almost always run with six dart clips or 18 round drums in Nerf wars. 6 dart clips are ok, I can usually count the amount of shots that come out of it. 18/35 darts drums are fine because you can tell, if you don't see any darts it's usually a good time to reload.

I'm worried since I plan on using 18 dart clips more. I heard they feed better then the drums and some of my 18s have been giving me feeding issues since some of them weren't used or stored properly. But when I used them with the Stampede I usually had to clue when they were out of darts until no darts came out.

So right now this dart switching technique is the best thing I got, unless I use the 18 round clips more and some sort of "6th sense" for the dart count.
