I know we have people from Texas on these forums, more so than most of the NIC sites, so I just wanted to mention that there will be two Texas nerf wars this summer. The first will be in Houston on Saturday, June 23. Melee will be allowed, homemade darts will be allowed, basically an average Texas nerf war. Others and myself will have some quite respectable blasters that we will be more than happy to lend to you for the day if you don't have one or don't think yours is competitive enough (which is probably wrong - stock blasters can still be quite effective). The war thread for the Houston war is hereThe second will be in College Station on Saturday, July 21. Same deal as the Houston war, the rules will pretty much be the same. Loaner blasters will also be available at this war. The war thread for the College Station war is hereIf anyone has any questions/comments or wants to express interest in attending, let me know.

For what it's worth, I am tentatively planning on bringing my elderly, overweight rear to both, although I don't really have any war-worthy blasters, and I'll likely be bringing my puppy to let him get some sun and exercise.

How'd that turn out?

That was JP up there. It seemed like they worked well for him, at least from my point of view.

Sorry, missed this. Yeah, I was using shingles. They're actually quite convenient, although I need to work on a better cap system. Once I get an actual working PumpSnap (as opposed to the less-than-worthwhile one I am currently wielding), I will put a lot more effort into making them work well. You have to shake and be careful when loading the hopper from a reloading clip, but as long as you're paying attention, it works a LOT better than manual reloading. The shingle system itself is sort of a prototype, but it's just several tees opened up to make clips with a CPVC rod running through the back and a rope with two nooses to allow belt attachment. Really, it's easy, it's inexpensive, and while I had some issues with running at full sprint, it worked out much better than carrying a big bag full of foam.

Hey, what can I say, the Trooper is just a lot of fun. Massacre kit, 5 kg spring, Elite darts. I highly recommend this set up for HvZ playing, for for the record. Went through several hundred rounds without a single jam (admittedly, I do not slam-fire), and it was working out a lot better in the high grass than the Sceptor and the rather disappointing PumpSnap. Oh well, hopefully NoM will get my new one finished up soon, or I'll just bring along my new SnapBow with rocket launcher.

My son, who is 10 is interested in finding a nerf war for his age group. Does anyone know where I could find one in Houston? Thanks!

I don't know if he's already PM'd you or not, but JPRoth1980 up there is trying to get monthly Houston Area wars started. There's a link to it posted below. Not sure about age group. Most of the "regulars" are over 20, but we've had some young'uns show up in the past. http://www.nerfrevolution.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5312

Most of the "regulars" are over 20, but we've had some young'uns show up in the past. http://www.nerfrevolution.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5312For what it's worth, I am willing to accommodate younger Nerfers, with a few caveats. 1: Children must be supervised at all times. Grab a blaster and play, mom. 2: Eye protection is MANDATORY. Absolutely and totally. 3: Many of our blasters can hurt/bruise/leave welts if fired up close. As such, you and your child/any of his friends (heck, everyone is welcome) need to realize that these things are not the same as a Nerf gun you buy at the toy store. 4: I have a number of blasters he is welcome to borrow for the duration of the war, but I'm not certain how well they will work for a child. The springs are much more stiff and suchlike. Perhaps a smaller HAMP would work well. 5: As ilikefish58 pointed out, we are a group of "older" geeks, ranging from the mid-teens to the 40s. Just keep in mind he'll be one of the youngest people there and prepare accordingly.
