In a post-Virginia Tech world, many things have changed and people are much more fearful for their safety. Another major concern was the use of colored bandanas. Students could be mistaken for gang members.

I don't see how mass hysteria can occur from foam and yellow plastic - by the way the person is carrying on I wouldn't be suprised if they were offended by birthdays on 9/11...
In terms of safety of the game, something we did here at ANU to get security's approval was to show them the levels we took with codifying safety principles into the rules, and we also offered to hold safety talks that were compulsory for all players. It showed them our level of commitment to upholding their concerns and reduced their apprehension
The safety talks were compulsory for all players. Security didn't have too many issues with us during the week apart from some extreme examples.
